Songs of War, Songs of Healing

"What this music does for our vets is something people can't believe until they see it," says co-founder Bobbie Allison-Standefer. Recent events have created an urgency to reach more vets with more resources in more places. Get to know Freedom Sings USA's Music Team and Veteran Members.

SONGS OF WAR & SONGS OF HEALING

As we near the end of the year, Freedom Sings USA is experiencing an amazing period of growth and challenges. Our veteran members (long time attendees and newcomers) are feeling the stress of current events (the war, the withdrawal, the 24/7 news designed to agitate rather than investigate). And since the withdrawal, greater numbers of vets are struggling to adjust to life back in the states. All of these factors (plus the holiday pressures) create an urgency to reach more vets with more resources in more places.

“We lean on our songwriting leadership more than ever,” says Freedom Sings USA Executive Director, Bobbie Allison-Standefer, referring to her co-founders, Don Goodman and Steve Dean. “They are the musical heart of Freedom Sings USA. Every day, they make a difference in the lives of our vets.”

Don Goodman and Steve Dean had long careers in Nashville before meeting Bobbie and launching Freedom Sings USA. Both have written and co-written country chart-toppers and played with some legendary acts.

“I don't think people know how incredibly talented and accomplished these guys are,” Bobbie says. “And that gave me an idea. Maybe we need to tell the story of how these guys and this music are able to connect with combat hardened veterans – some of the toughest men and women you'll ever meet.”

Over the next couple of weeks, Bobbie says she's going to launch a campaign that does just that.

“I don't know what to call it yet. It's a work in progress,” she laughs. “But it will be a series of profiles – told through writing, song and video – that will give people a peek into the amazing power of music, artists and warriors connecting and finding healing.”

Bobbie says she's open to name suggestions for the profile series. She invites anyone and everyone reading this to send their thoughts, comments and story ideas.
