A STORY OF NEW PARTNERSHIPS AND NEW OPPORTUNITIES
It’s been an exciting time for all of us at Freedom Sings USA. We’ve seen our music arts therapy classes and event reach more Veterans than we ever imagined possible. Keeping up with that growth is, of course, a lot of work. But there’s a joy and optimism to the work that keeps us going. We see the results. We see Veterans reconnecting to their peers and sharing in our group sessions. The songs they write are amazing works that demonstrate their passion, patriotism and courage. For many, their path to healing is a lifelong journey. We are building a community of Veterans, musicians and creative therapy professionals that will be here for them every step of the way.

A COLLABORATION IN SONG
Toward that end, we are excited to announce our ongoing collaboration with the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA.org), VA Clinics and the VA’s Center for Development and Civic Engagement (a community outreach division of the national VA) to create sustainable music art therapy programs that reach Veterans at VA facilities across the nation.

TODAY, through these Veteran programs, we are proud to release the first album of songs by Veterans who are currently servicing as VA nurses. Each song is written by a VA Nurse (along with a songwriting coach) and tells their story — happy or sad, these are songs based on their experiences and challenges in the military and in nursing. These are songs of healing… by actual VA Veteran Nurses. Please take a moment to listen to their stories in song.

ABOUT THE ALBUM
THE WAY BACK is an album of songs written by Veterans who served in our military and currently work as nurses at the Department of Veterans Affairs (in locations across the country). This album was made possible through the cooperation of VA clinics and the VA Center for Development and Civic Engagement (CDCE) – and through the participation of VA nurses, veterans, songwriters, creative arts therapists and volunteers. All songs are based on real-life experiences shared by participants during Freedom Sings USA classes and workshops between February and April of 2023.
