It is with great sadness that we at Freedom Sings USA announce that Saturday, September the 26th, we lost our dear friend and alum Tracy Smith to a terrible battle with cancer. Several years ago, Tracy joined our class and wrote a song entitled “Change” which paid tribute to his son Randall who died in service to his country at the Naval Operations and Support Center here in Chattanooga. For years Tracy continued his presence around our family table not only as a participant in song writing, but a volunteer and friend. Really, he was our brother. He was there for those who needed support, but we would be remiss if we did not mention his humor that always broke the ice. More often than not his wit was aimed at Don Goodman for being the “aged” one in the group even if Don was not the senior at the table. Other than that, anyone was fair game.
Tracy volunteered for many organizations around our area, lent a helping hand to whomever was in need, and would bring his grandson whom he raised most everywhere they needed to go. And in his grandson Mason’s words, they drove around in “Paw Paw’s red truck!”
Dear Tracy, you enriched all of our lives. You taught us the meaning of friendship, compassion, forgiveness, and you certainly were a patriot in our eyes. We love you, and miss you. May we always remember your courage and faith you displayed till the end. We can certainly never forget you dear brother. May you Rest In Peace. Fair winds and following seas.
To Tracy’s family, our prayers and thoughts are with you. We are so sorry for your loss of a grandfather, father, father-n-law, and brother. You are and shall remain in our hearts.
Memorial contributions may be made to his grandson Mason’s College Fund, for details contact Lisa Bannister at First Baptist Church, Fort Oglethorpe, 706-866-0232.
